With the hustle of the holidays behind us, I can’t help but think about the loss of Sally Santana to the community this past October. Sally was our tireless advocate for the homeless in Kitsap, she spoke up and toiled to improve the lives and spirits of the homeless here, so that we didn’t have to think about how to help, quite so much. She led us, we followed. We hoped she made a difference. Now she is gone, and it’s time for us to step up.
The United Way has set up a wonderful matching fund to help with the homeless in Sally Santana’s name, see
for details. Now that my children are young adults, we choose a charity each year to support with our “Santa” money as a family. This year, we supported the Sally Santana Matching Fund that will create a source for grants to others helping the homeless for years to come. Won’t you join me? Whether a donation or a silent prayer, a good thought or a helping hand, we’ll all be a little warmer this winter.
