Summer is a wonderful time for kids and teens to visit the library! We have Wii and X-box games, books, CDs, DVDs and more. We have science classes, story times, live entertainment and teen field trips to exciting destinations. However, did you know we also have free lunches?
Partnering with local school districts, our Port Orchard, Sylvan Way and Downtown Bremerton Branches will be offering free lunches to anyone 18 years of age or younger this summer.
- South Kitsap School District will provide a free sack lunch at Port Orchard’s Waterfront Park each Wednesday through August 13 following the 10:30 a.m. children’s library program there.
- Bremerton School District will offer the same service at our Sylvan Way Branch on Wednesdays from 12:30 – 12:45, July 2 through August 6 and at our Downtown Bremerton Branch on Tuesdays, 12:00 – 12:15, from July 8 through August 12. Again, these lunches are free and available to anyone under 18 years of age.
Our library system is also partnering with Stand Up for Kids, a local agency that provides food, necessities and triage services to homeless and at-risk teens. Our Silverdale, Downtown Bremerton, and Sylvan Way branches will have non-perishable, bagged meals available at the checkout desks to any teen in need of this service, free for the asking.
Please spread the word about these valuable programs. Someone you know may be thrilled to discover their children can have lunch at the library!
