Downloading library ebooks and audiobooks is easier than ever on your Kindle Fire!
In addition to Kindle format ebooks, the OverDrive Media Console (OMC) app for Android will allow you to read ePUB eBooks and listen to MP3 audiobooks.
Before you get started, make sure there’s a method of payment associated with your Amazon account.
First, get the app:
- Connect to the Internet
- Tap Apps on the home page
- Tap Store
- Search for “overdrive”
- Select OverDrive for Kindle Fire
- Tap Free
- Tap Get App
- The app will download and install
Then, select Kitsap Regional Library within the app:
- On the home page, tap the OMC icon
- Tap the book+ icon (top right)
- Tap Add a Library
- Enter your zipcode
- Select any Kitsap Regional library branch from the list of libraries
- Tap the star to turn it yellow
Next, find an ebook or audiobook!
- On the home page, tap the OMC icon
- Tap the book+ icon (top right)
- Tap Kitsap Regional Library. This will take you to KRL’s Digital Media Catalog, hosted by OverDrive.
- Tap Login, then enter your library card number and password
- Tap Search
- Tap Advanced
- Find the format field and tap the carrot to see a list of formats
- Choose a format
- Optional – fill in other fields
- Scroll down
- Optional – Tap the available now button
- Tap search
Ready to checkout?
- Tap Add to eBookBag
- Tap Proceed to Checkout
- Tap Confirm check out
Lastly, download to your Kindle Fire! The process for downloading is determined by the format of the item you have checked out.
For Kindle ebooks:
- Tap Get for Kindle
- You’ll be taken to Amazon’s website. You may need to sign in to your Amazon account.
- Read the green box on the screen.
- First, ‘Deliver to’ needs to indicate your device
- Then, tap Get library book
- To read your Kindle book, go to your home page and tap on the book’s cover.
For ePUB ebooks and MP3 audiobooks:
- Tap Download
- You’ll be taken to your bookshelf within the OMC app, where your item will download.
- To read your ebook or listen to your audiobook, go to your home page and tap the OMC icon. Tap Bookshelf (top right). Tap on the cover of the item you want to open.
